Soi Dog Foundation helps the homeless and abused dog and cat populations in Phuket, Thailand. The organization aims to set an example for the region on how to better the lives and living conditions of stray dogs and cats and how to humanely reduce their numbers through sterilization. To date, over 49,000 dogs and cats have been sterilized. Volunteers are encouraged to assist with day-to-day operations and to help re-socialize the animals to improve their chances of adoption.

Cost: Free

Accommodations Details: Volunteers must coordinate their own accommodation, although Soi Dog will arrange transportation each day if staying in Nai Yang, Mai Khao, Thalang. Local guesthouses typically run between $15-$25/night, with better deals for month-long commitments.

Typical Day: Soi Dog is open from 9AM-5PM, Monday – Friday. Volunteers’ days are spent grooming animals, walking dogs, and focusing on socialization.

Location: Shelter is located in Mai Khao, just north of the Phuket airport.
