Seven months without a blog post, six months back on the job. Man, I am ready to be on the road! In February I made the difficult decision to call off my trip to SE Asia. I was offered a great opportunity as a Senior Producer on the Google Fiber Launch in Kansas City and felt that the opportunity for additional travel savings outweighed the benefits of conquering the trip on my own at that moment. Around that same time I received a call from my old friend Erin Keller, proposing a summer trip to Africa and Turkey. With that a new plan was set in motion—Mount Kilimanjaro, the coast of Mozambique, a safari in Kruger National Park, and a few weeks in Turkey on the way back. Oh my.
Erin and I have been friends since 8th grade when we bonded over broken bones (her collarbone, my fibula). No one could have known that two brutal soccer injuries would lead to a lifetime of friendship and inappropriate punch lines. We lived together for a time in San Francisco before she headed off to conquer the law world at NYU. Just two days ago she wrapped up the California bar exam, and with that, we were off on our grand adventure!
We just arrived at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, where we will rest up for 36 hours in advance of our 8-day trek to the summit. I am hopeful that the next post will read something along the lines of, “HOLY EFFIN’ COW THAT WAS HARD BUT SAWEEET!” Please wish us luck and a lack of blisters!
